Citrine is the yellow or golden variety of quartz. The yellow
coloration, due to the presence of iron, is also responsible for the name,
derived from the word citrus. Natural citrine is usually a pale yellow,
but rare; most citrine on the market is heat treated amethyst or smoky
quartzes. Brazilian amethyst
turns light yellow at 878 degrees F and dark yellow to red brown at
1022-1040 degrees F. Some smoky Quartzes turn yellow earlier, at 572-752
degrees F (be careful soldering). All heat treated stones have a red tint.OCCURRENCE:
Gem quality citrine is extremely rare. The best material is fund in Brazil,
Spain, Madagascar, and the former USSR. REMARKS: Citrine has been used
to imitate
Topaz and was once called Brazilian topaz. (Novembers Birthstone Imperial
Topaz) HEALING PROPERTIES: Cheerfulness, overcome mental blocks, attracts
